Case Study: Lawn Tennis Association

The Challenge

The LTA’s mission is to get more people playing tennis more often, and part of its role is to govern tennis in Great Britain, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man by acting as guardians to promote and safeguard the integrity of the sport.

The LTA approach was traditionally to assess player development and then inform coaches about what needed to change. In the future the emphasis is to be on making sure the coaches have everything they need to develop the players. By changing their approach, if a player drops off the radar, the local coaches have still the skills to fast track another athlete resulting in a better focus of investment.

The Solution

The LTA asked Sporting Edge to write and present a Mentoring Masterclass for their elite coaches across the UK. The Masterclass had to engage and inspire the elite coaches present and leave them ideas to implement in their respective regions and equip them to be more effective in their role. This was seen as the start of the LTA’s mentoring programme and result in a shift of coaching styles for the future.

Three of Sporting Edge’s senior consultants presented the masterclass at the LTA’s High Performance Centre in Roehampton, London, prior to the 2015 Davis Cup Final in Belgium. The content was updated with our latest content from some of the world’s leading coaches and managers and resulted in stimulating debate, and designated action plans by the coaches present.

"I thought the overall delivery was phenomenal. You all present ridiculously well and it felt completely seamless. Some great stories and antic dotes that brought the information to life."
