"My motivation comes from being the very best I can be – I’ve never needed any external gifts and rewards to motivate me."
With 16 Paralympic Gold medals to her name, Dame Sarah Storey is one of the most successful paralympians of all time. She is a multiple gold medal winner at the Paralympic Games in both swimming and cycling and has broken 76 world records in her career spanning almost 30 years.
Sarah was born without a fully functioning left hand after her arm became entangled in the umbilical cord in the womb. She overcame a challenging time at school and focused her energies into her sport. Her success is truly inspirational, and testament that we can succeed in any area of our lives – no matter what challenges and adversity is thrown at us.
In this mastermind episode as I unpack how Sarah is still winning gold medals aged 43. Find out more about her “be the best you can be” mantra, finding intrinsic motivation, the power of personal praise, emotion control – and what she does when things don’t go to plan.
