The Challenge


Santander Universities’ mission is to support students from diverse backgrounds into university, work and self-employment. Collaborating with over 80 universities, they have spent the past 10 years providing life changing opportunities to students from across the country.

Santander Universities wanted to deliver a new and exciting Online Self Development programme for 1400 students across the UK. The aim of the programme was to provide students with an innovative, digital learning experience to support their future development and growth of their employability skills. As part of the programme, students would be in with a life-changing chance to win one of four £10,000 Santander Universities development grants.

The Solution


A powerful digital learning experience was created using Sporting Edge’s exclusive insights from world-class experts in high performance combined with quizzes and curated resources. The programme consisted of eight focused modules, each of which provided the students with new skills and strategies that they could not only apply to their current studies, but also to their future careers. Modules included personal drive, confidence and resilience and wellbeing and featured inspirational video insights from Olympians, elite coaches, neuroscientists and proven business leaders. With additional access to Sporting Edge’s wider digital library, the students were able to explore over 850 high performance lessons on 80+ topics. Over six weeks, students were flexibly able to work through the digital content and complete the module quizzes.

The Result


The students showed phenomenal engagement in the content. The social media posts also demonstrated the personal impact that the content was having with over 800 posts using the hashtag #SantanderUniGrowth. This created a great community across the 80 universities as all the students were studying remotely during COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. At a time of extended isolation when mental health was being tested, hundreds of students shared their appreciation with Sporting Edge for making the content available.
